An investigation is under way after a French fishing boat collided with a cargo ship in the English Channel, coastguards said.
Dover Coastguard received an emergency call at around 7am today from the crew of the British cargo vessel the Vanguard to say it had collided with French fishing boat the Pago 35 miles north east of Dover.
Early reports were that no one had been injured and neither boat had been badly damaged.
A Dover Coastguard spokesman said: ‘‘It appears at this stage that both vessels are a bit scratched but that neither is taking on water. We have not sent our lifeboats to the scene but are still investigating.’’
