Heavy rainfall has flooded Cape Town in South Africa and left more than a thousand people homeless.

More than 1,400 residents, mainly women and children, have taken refuge in a community hall in Nyanga.

The rainfall is the heaviest in July for 44 years and has forced roads to be closed and uprooted trees.
