French police arrest man over missing girl
A man has been arrested by police searching for missing British schoolgirl Bunmi Shagaya.
Police say he was the man seen sitting naked in a van close to where the girl was last seen.
The man, in his 40s, was arrested at his house after being spotted by a local girl. She took the van's registration number and police traced the owner.
Detectives are reportedly describing the arrest, made last night, as "significant".
Police captain Jean-Marc Cruciani, leading the hunt for Bumni, says the suspect is being questioned by detectives.
Bunmi was on a school trip to a theme park near Dieppe. She was last seen playing with schoolfriends at a lake on Monday afternoon.
Police don't know if she drowned or has been abducted. Her family, from south London, are now in France to help with the search.
In a second development, a local newspaper claimed a police sniffer dog had picked up the youngster's scent after her bag was discovered at the lake.
The report in newspaper Paris Normandie said the scent was traced to a children's play park next to a car park, where it then disappeared.
Police, the article stated, had not ruled out the possibility that Bunmi had been abducted. Inside the bag was a young child's clothes, shoes and a towel.
The man gave police an account of his movements during Monday. Police are checking to see if his account was correct.
A major search for Bunmi has resumed with more than 100 officers searching woodland surrounding the lake.
