Blaze at oil refinery
A fire broke out at an oil refinery in south Wales tonight.
About 80 Mid Wales Fire Service fire fighters were working to put out the blaze at the Texaco refinery at Pembroke Dock.
The fire service was first notifed at 9.30pm when staff at the refinery reported a hydrogen leak.
The fire service has mobilised all its equipment to spray water jets over the affected area.
Police and ambulance were also on the scene, but early reports suggested no one has been injured.
Coastguards on watch at Milford Haven, just across the water from Pembroke Dock, saw the first plume of smoke and flame when the blaze began.
Coastguard Julie Parkes said: ‘‘There was just a puff of black smoke which then became quite a lot of black smoke.
‘‘We could see the flame and we heard the siren which they set off if anything goes wrong.’’
She said they had spoken to the fire service which said it had the fire under control.
And she said the fact that none of the oil tankers berthed at the Texaco dock had moved out of the area was an early indication there was no threat of any explosion and firefighters had the incident in hand.
