Temporary replacement for Cardinal Winning
The man appointed as a temporary replacement to Cardinal Thomas Winning has been named as Monsignor James Clancy.
Mgr Clancy was born in Belfast in 1943 and moved to the Glasgow area with his family at the age of 11.
He was educated at St Aloysius' College in Glasgow and St Mary's College Blairs, near Aberdeen, before going to Rome.
He studied at the Pontifical Scots College in Italy and the Pontifical Gregorian University where he graduated with degrees in philosophy and theology.
Ordained in 1967, his first post was teaching at Blairs College for 12 years, where he taught history, Latin and science.
He then moved to St Andrew's Parish, Bearsden in Glasgow as an Assistant.
In 1981 he was named by the Bishops of Scotland as rector of the Pontifical Scots College in Rome, an office he held until 1986.
Mgr Clancy returned to serve in St Ninian's Parish, Knightswood in Glasgow, St Joseph's in Faifley, West Dunbartonshire, and St Kessog's in Balloch, also in West Dunbartonshire.
He was named Vicar General of the Archdiocese of Glasgow by Cardinal Winning in 1988.
Since 1994, Mgr Clancy has been Administrator of St Andrew's Cathedral in Glasgow.
