Deaths leave ceasefire in jeopardy
The US-sponsored ceasefire in the Middle East has been thrown into jeopardy after two shooting deaths on the West Bank.
An Israeli security official was killed in a car when a Palestinian fired from close range.
The gunman was then killed by a passenger in the Israeli car, said Shmuel Ben-Ruby, a Jerusalem police spokesman.
A 20-year-old man was injured in the incident and is in hospital with bullet wounds in the jaw and neck.
The attack followed a drive-by shooting, apparently by Israelis.
Israeli media said a Jewish group seeking revenge for Palestinian attacks was behind the attack that killed a Palestinian and wounded three others when gunmen opened fire on their truck from an oncoming car.
In a statement, the leadership of Jewish settlers condemned the shooting, near the settlement of Maale Adumim east of Jerusalem.
