Mel B promises superstar salaries for talent contestants
Scary Spice Mel B is to make her prime time TV presenting debut this summer on a new music talent show.
Dressed in a light pink vest top, jeans and white trainers, the singer was at a photocall at Granada Television Studios in London to promote her forthcoming programme This Is My Moment.
The ITV show, which will be filmed live from Manchester, promises to reward talented singers with a ‘‘superstar salary’’.
Contestants have to phone Mel in the studio and sing live on air to a team of judges.
‘‘You literally pick up the phone and sing to enter,’’ said a Granada spokesman.
Viewers then cast their votes and contestants receive 50p for every vote.
‘‘In the pilot, the winner won about £50,000,’’ the spokesman added.
‘‘We don’t promise anyone fame or fortune all we promise is to give them a superstar salary for one night and reward their talent.’’
Mel B, who this weekend came under fire from family campaigners for shouting out a swear word on children’s TV, was chosen to host the show because of her ‘‘huge charisma and charm’’, according to ITV’s controller of entertainment Claudia Rosencrantz.
Mel B said: ‘‘I’m thrilled to be involved in This Is My Moment.
‘‘It’s a brilliant show and what’s great is that we are going to give away a superstar salary to one talented singer.
‘‘There is so much talent out there and we are looking for it. All you’ve got to do is sing down the phone. What could be easier?!’’
This Is My Moment is due to be screened twice a week this summer.
