US to abandon ’two wars’ spending yardstick
US Defence Secretary Donald Rumsfeld is ready to unveil a new military strategy that, among other things, would formally abandon the ‘‘two major wars’’ measure that has been used to determine the size of the military for a decade.
Rumsfeld is scheduled to meet with US President George W. Bush this week to seek final approval for the new strategy, said to involve some of the biggest changes in the US military in a decade.
