Great Train Robber flies back to Britain
Ronnie Biggs is on a plane back to England after 31 years on the run in Brazil.
Biggs, who robbed £2.6m from the Glasgow-London mail train in 1963, has decided to turn himself in to the British authorities after a third stroke left him debilitated and unable to speak.
He has been living in Rio de Janeiro since escaping from prison in England, where he was serving time for the Great Train Robbery.
The Sun newspaper chartered a plane to bring Biggs back to Britain to face the music for his 38-year-old crime.
He avoided reporters as he boarded the plane in Brazil yesterday.
The robber could face 28 years in prison if the British authorities decide not to be lenient.
They have already failed in several attempts to have him extradited from Brazil and he is understood to have hired British lawyers to help fight his case on this side of the Atlantic.
