Hollywood strike 'could be called off'

There are rumours in Hollywood that a possible strike by writers could be averted.

The deadline for an agreement between the Writers' Guild of America and Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers passed on Wednesday morning at 8am (Irish time).

The WGA wants more cash for the writers so its members benefit on the earnings film and television shows get after their first screening in the United States.

Despite the passing of the deadline the talks have continued and, according to the Hollywood Reporter, hopes are rising for a possible deal.

Discussions finished this morning at 12:30am (Irish time) and are expected to begin again at 6pm this evening.

Rumours have been circulating around Hollywood that a deal was within reach.

Sources on both sides said that negotiators were making significant progress.
