Poland's bishops to apologise for Jewish massacre
Poland's bishops will formally apologise during a religious ceremony for the 1941 massacre of Jews.
The Roman Catholic church has been blamed for causing anti-semitic feelings that led to massacres like the one in July 1941, when 1,600 Jews were murdered.
The Rev Adam Schulz, spokesman for the bishops' conference, said the bishops will say sorry "for the sins or the evil done in this painful event concerning Polish-Jewish relations, which recently has been revealed as a murder of Jews in Jedwabne".
Last year the bishops issued a letter apologising for the church's tolerance of anti-semitism.
The ceremony will be held on May 27 at the All Saints' Church in Warsaw.
