British fishermen take advantage of ban lift

The 10-week ban, which ends at midnight, was imposed by the European Commission in 40,000 square miles of the North Sea to help revive dangerously depleted cod stocks by protecting the species during the crucial spawning period.

Chief executive of the Scottish Fishermen’s Federation, Hamish Morrison, said members were ‘‘delighted’’ by the end of the curbs.
