Canadian meteorite may have been part of planet core
Scientists say a meteorite which fell in a Canadian farmer's field was probably once part of the core of a small planet.
Two years after it fell in Hamilton, Ontario, tests are still being carried out on it to find out exactly what it is made of.
The rock weighs around 30 kilograms and probably contains iron and nickel.
Richard Herd, curator of the National Meteoric Collection of Canada, expects the tests to be completed in late May.
He believes the results will be released days later, reports reports said.
Mr Herd said it may be a type of meteor known as an octahedrite.
He added: "The chances of finding a meteorite at all are relatively rare - but until we get that analytical work, we can't say exactly what it is."
