Actress Kidman attacks media 'intrusion'
Nicole Kidman has lashed out at the media for its "invasive and upsetting" coverage of her recent miscarriage and break-up with husband Tom Cruise.
Kidman said that the weeks since her 10-year marriage to Cruise ended in early February had been the toughest time of her life.
In particular, Kidman said reports that surfaced last week of her failed pregnancy earlier this year had been "very upsetting and it's very invasive".
"I understand that people are interested but it's my life - my personal life," the actress was quoted as saying. "It's very difficult seeing your life being dragged through the newspapers and the tabloids and your children being dragged through it."
Cruise and Kidman announced in early February that they would split after 10 years of marriage. The Hollywood couple have two adopted children, Isabella and Connor.
Last week Kidman's Australian publicist, Wendy Day, confirmed the star had suffered a miscarriage.
An unidentified Australian friend of Kidman was later reported as saying that the pregnancy failed shortly after her split with Cruise, who has filed for divorce.
Kidman, whose films include Eyes Wide Shut and To Die For, said she is "trying to take each day as it comes" since her separation from Cruise.
She is preparing to play writer Virginia Woolf in a new film while also working on a publicity blitz for her upcoming movie Moulin Rouge, in which she stars with Ewan MacGregor.
Kidman said the musical, which has been chosen to open the prestigious Cannes Film Festival, has kept her going through tough times.
