FBI reveals plot to kidnap Russell Crowe

The FBI has admitted it's been investigating a plot to kidnap Russell Crowe.

A spokeswoman said the FBI had interviewed Crowe.

It's unusual for the agency to comment on investigations but it apparently decided to release details after media reports.

"In light of that, we have confirmed we have an investigation into a plot to kidnap him," said spokeswoman Laura Bosley.

She said the investigation was still on-going.

A spokeswoman for Crowe said: "We're aware of the plot and the FBI has been helpful in guiding us. He has taken the necessary security precautions."

According to US TV show Entertainment Tonight, Crowe was told about the plot by the FBI more than a month ago and attended the Golden Globe Awards in January surrounded by FBI agents.

Reports in the UK at the weekend said Scotland Yard worked closely with Crowe to protect him during the premiere of Proof Of Life, and that he was questioned for nine hours and a decoy was used on his journey out of the country.
