Mother and son, 6, found dead at home

A mother and her six-year-old son have been found dead at their home in the UK.

The body of Sam McMartin was found in a first floor bedroom and the body of Lucy Ann McMartin was found in the garage of the house in Longton, near Preston.

An ambulance crew made the discovery at the house in Orchard Lane early yesterday evening after neighbours raised the alarm.

A Lancashire police spokesman said: "This is a very tragic incident and we are currently trying to establish how Mrs McMartin and her son met their deaths".

A post-mortem is due to be held later.
