The Libyan acquitted of murder charges in the Lockerbie bombing has boarded a flight back to Tripoli.

The flight ends nearly two years in detention and a gruelling nine-month trial for Lamen Khalifa Fhimah.

The 44-year-old boarded a Dutch air force aircraft flying under United Nations authority and has left for Libya, said Justice Ministry spokesman Victor Holtus.
