AN APPEAL into the conviction of a Libyan man jailed for the bombing of Pan Am Flight 103 over the Scottish town of Lockerbie got under way in a packed courtroom yesterday.

Lawyers for a former Libyan secret service agent today appealed to a Scottish court to overturn his conviction for the 1988 Lockerbie bombing that killed 270 people, claiming to have new evidence proving a miscarriage of justice.

The Libyan acquitted of murder charges in the Lockerbie bombing has boarded a flight back to Tripoli.

The prosecution is set to begin its closing speech as the Lockerbie trial resumes in the Netherlands.
