US ambassador aboard hijacked plane

A US ambassador was aboard a hijacked Yemeni aeroplane.

US embassy official Matt Tueller says the ambassador is safe and that the hijack ended without violence.

Mr Tueller says the flight was diverted to neighbouring Djibouti, where the hijacking apparently ended.

"The ambassador and her party were on a commercial Yemeni flight, San'a to Taiz. The plane was diverted to Djibouti," Tueller said.

He says he has had heard reports one hijacker commandeered the plane but had no other details.
