They claimed a ruling against them showed they could not get a fair verdict.

The Senate tribunal has suspended operations until the House of Representatives, which initiated the impeachment process, decides how to proceed.

The main options appear to be appointing new prosecutors from among their ranks or dropping the corruption charges against Estrada.

Sergio Osmena, one of the 22 senators hearing the case, has also stepped down as judge.
