Republicans seek to expel man for cop killing comments

Republicans in the Massachusetts House of Representatives have asked party leaders to disown a colleague who supports killing police officers.

They are seeking to strip New Hampshire's Tom Alciere of his Republican party affiliation, but it is unclear if a political party can strip membership from an individual because of his views.

He hit the headlines after he posted an internet message that said: "There's nothing wrong with slaughtering a cop".

In a letter to National Committee Chairman Jim Nicholson, Massachusetts' 24-member Republican House delegation called Mr Alciere "an embarrassment to our party".

Mr Alciere, 41, said his anger stems from reading and watching television about police misconduct.

New Hampshire Secretary of State Bill Gardner said it is unlikely a political party could take away a person's party membership.

No-one was available to comment at Republican National Committee headquarters.
