Pressure has grown for the Government to screen soldiers who served in Bosnia and Kosovo for cancer after the emergence of so-called Balkan War syndrome.

Former British Army engineer Kevin Rudland claims his medical condition and the deaths of six Italian soldiers may be linked to the use of depleted uranium in cannon shells fired during Nato air strikes. The European Union is to conduct an inquiry into possible health risks from the shells, which were fired from American planes.
