Donald Trump: ‘Obama, IS’ slur was sarcasm

Donald Trump has insisted his description of US president Barack Obama as the founder of Islamic State (IS) was simply sarcasm.

At a rally, the under-fire Republican presidential candidate said Mr Obama was “the founder of Isis”, repeating the claim in two subsequent interviews.

However, in a Twitter message criticising CNN’s coverage, he said the network had reported his claim “so seriously”. Mr Trump tweeted: “THEY DON’T GET SARCASM?”
