An 18-year-old woman live-streamed the rape of her 17-year-old friend by a man with whom she had been drinking, a prosecutor has said in announcing a rape and kidnapping indictment.

Authorities learned of the assault when a friend of the accused woman saw the images on a social media app, Franklin County Prosecutor Ron O’Brien said.

Marina Lonina and Raymond Gates, 29, were charged with rape, kidnapping, sexual battery, and pandering sexual matter involving a minor.

Ms Lonina was also charged with illegal use of a minor in a nudity-oriented material or performance. She and the victim were socialising with Mr Gates at a home in Columbus on February 27 when Mr Gates raped the girl, Mr O’Brien said.

Ms Lonina also livestreamed pictures of the girl in the nude the night before, he said.

Ms Lonina “categorically denies these charges”, said her attorney Josh Bedtelyon. Mr Gates is scheduled to appear in court today.

They each face up to 40 years in prison, if convicted.

Mr O’Brien said the motive for the livestreaming was unclear, but he said alcohol was a factor.
