US tries to repair ties after Barack Obama criticism of David Cameron

The value of the US and UK’s special relationship has been reaffirmed in the wake of Barack Obama’s criticism of David Cameron for his actions over Libya that allowed it to become a “shit show”.

Mr Obama has sharply criticised David Cameron for the UK’s role in allowing Libya to disintegrate after the fall of the dictator Muammar Gaddafi, in an unprecedented attack on a British leader by a serving US president.

The president was critical of European nations which joined the US in military action to prevent a massacre in Libya in 2011, but then failed to prevent the north African country becoming a “mess” in the aftermath of war.
