Smarter living at the touch of a button

Samsung’s vision for the future is that all of the devices in the home will be connected and talk to each other by 2020. David Lowes, chief marketing officer Samsung Europe said, “we want to create meaningful innovations — in sync with our modern lives”.

The idea of the smart home has been around for a long time but can you imagine a day when you’ll be able to control your washing machine from your phone? Well, that futuristic notion is now a reality with the launch of the Add Wash, Samsung’s washing machine that’s not only very smart but allows you to ‘add’ items to the wash while in the middle of a washing cycle. This works by using a unique door design with a ‘cat trap door’ of sorts on the existing door. So, this means that you can add to the washing load, while in the middle of a cycle full of water. The extra door is big enough for that odd sock but even large enough to stuff in a forgotten beach towel. Other really cool features include the ability for the washing machine to send an alert when the next phase of the wash cycle is about to happen or again when the cycle is complete. The Add Wash washing machines will be available across Europe this month.

Samsung also wants us to redefine the role of the fridge with the Family Hub refrigerator that features a wifi touchscreen that lets you connect with your family, manage food, and entertain like never before.
