QUIRKY WORLD ... Southampton fan Portsmouth turns matador after escaped bull sees red
The supporter, Dan Portsmouth, was walking along Kingsley Gardens, Totton, Southampton, on Monday afternoon when the bull ran towards him.
Mr Portsmouth, 28, said that the bull, which had escaped its field, missed him by inches before it ran off and ended up endangering traffic on the nearby A326.
Hampshire Police were alerted and armed officers shot the bull.
Mr Portsmouth, a supermarket worker, wrote on Facebook that he wished he had worn Southampton’s green away strip instead of the home strip, which is mostly red, the colour infamous for upsetting bulls.
He wrote: “Runaway bull in West Totton runs towards me and I have to move out the way like a matador, maybe I should have worn my green away shirt out instead of the red and white stripes of my Saints home shirt.”
A Hampshire Police spokesman said: “The bull was first reported in Alder Hill Drive, Totton, and was later seen heading northbound on the A326. Police hoped to contain it in the field, but that was not possible.
“An armed officer shot the animal, rather than risk it running off again.”

A dispute over stirring a pot of chili has led to an attack that injured two people at a Detroit home.
A 26-year-old man is accused of attacking his 35-year-old wife and a 30-year-old male acquaintance on the city’s west side.
The acquaintance allegedly stirred the pot, which was on the stove, and the man apparently did not like that. The acquaintance told police the man bit and stabbed him, because he “was unhappy about him stirring the chili”. The 26-year-old was later arrested.
A 19-year-old man from central Florida and first-time lottery player used the numbers from someone else’s unpurchased Powerball ticket to win $2mn.
Frederick Walker said there was already a completed play slip at the Sav-A-Ton store in Lake Mary, where he purchased his ticket, and he decided to try his hand using those numbers.
“When I heard about the billion dollar Powerball jackpot, I decided to try my luck and buy a ticket,” the teenager told the lottery.
He matched five numbers in the draw to win $1m, but added an extra feature which doubled his prize to $2m.
The mask of a federal police agent known as “The Japanese Federal”. who helped to detain politicians and executives in a corruption scandal engulfing state-run oil company Petrobras, could become a popular hit at Brazil’s carnival.
Olga Valles, who runs the Condal mask factory is betting the masks of agent Newton Ishii will be a big success during the annual carnival that begins on February 5.
“We are lacking in heroes, someone who does something right. This spurs us on, makes carnival more animated,” said Valles, adding Ishii is already a hero.
The company, which has made masks of US President Barack Obama, Pope Francis, Osama Bin Laden and Saddam Hussein, will produce about 200,000 masks for this year’s carnival.
