TAIWAN: Taiwan will roll out “angel” and “devil” metro cards featuring a Japanese porn star next week, despite a public outcry and a previous decision to scrap the project.

QUIRKY WORLD ... Devil to pay: Taiwan to roll out porn star metro cards

Japanese adult film actress Yui Hatano will appear on a limited-edition charity series of Taiwan EasyCards, which users swipe to enter metro stations and buy goods at convenience stores.

“We will issue the ‘devil’ edition Yui Hatano cards beginning September 1 as originally planned,” EasyCard Corp said, referring to the sexier of the two cards. The softer “angel” cards will be released after a change in theme after hearing “input from various parties”, it said.

“We expect to launch the ‘angel’ edition cards in mid-September, following a redesign.”

EasyCard had previously announced it would halt the roll-out following an angry public reaction.

Taipei mayor Ko Wen-je said in a statement he didn’t know what motivated recently appointed EasyCard chairman Tai Chi-chuan to “make that kind of business judgement”.

Cor Blimey! £51 paper cup

ENGLAND: Mothers have hailed him a sex symbol, his £1.50 vests sent the media into a frenzy – and now a paper coffee cup used by Jeremy Corbyn has been sold on ebay for £51.

Corbynmania has reached new heights as fans of the Labour leadership favourite entered a bidding war over the disposable cup.

It attracted 23 bids and sold for £51 – with all the money going to Age UK. The item description, written on August 20 when it was listed, states that Mr Corbyn handed the seller the cup at a theatre in Nottingham.

Vegas swimmers rescued

USA: Two men jumped into a canal at the Venetian Hotel in Las Vegas and, because they could not swim, had to be rescued and hospitalised, a spokesman for the hotel said.

The two men were caught on hotel surveillance cameras jumping over the fence that surrounds the hotel’s canal along Las Vegas Boulevard, hotel spokesman Keith Salwoski said in an email. “Apparently, the individuals were unable to swim and were pulled from the water,” he said.

The two individuals were transported in critical condition by ambulance to University Medical Centre in Las Vegas, said Clark County Fire Department deputy chief Jeff Buchanan.

He could not share any details on their latest condition. It was unclear what led the men to jump into the canal.

Rams fan misses out

NORWAY: A Norwegian Derby County fan spent £5,000 to bring his family to watch a Saturday game to celebrate his 60th birthday – only for the game to be switched to a Monday night game for TV.

Finn Steen and his party of 11 had booked flights, hotels and tickets to see the Rams take on Burnley in the Championship on Saturday, September 19.

But the game has been put back to Monday to be shown live on Sky Sports with Mr Steen and his group leaving the country 24 hours before the game kicks off.

Inviting vandalism

USA: Sheriff’s deputies have interviewed more than a dozen girls named “Destiny” trying to crack a vandalism case where someone spray-painted a prom invitation on a southwest Idaho cliffside.

But Ada County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Patrick Orr said the case remains unsolved. Authorities in May discovered the message “Destiny, Prom?” painted in large pink and blue letters on the side of the Black Cliffs, a popular rock climbing spot, east of Boise.

The person could face a misdemeanour charge of injury by graffiti, which is punishable by up to six months in jail and a fine of $1,000.
