Online searches for the Japanese clothing brand soared this week after the viral spread of the video apparently showing a young couple having sex in the Chinese capital’s flagship store.
But the video also has drawn the concern of police and China’s highest web regulator who are investigating whether it was a vulgar marketing gimmick.
The 71-second video shows a man filming himself with a woman in front of a mirror. A Uniqlo store announcement can be heard clearly in the background welcoming customers and advising them that fitting rooms are on the second and third floors while cashiers are on the first.
Beijing police announced that it would investigate. Chinese law bans the manufacture of obscene material while cyber-rules ban its spread online.
Italian farmers are installing showers and air conditioning in cowsheds and pigsties to allow the animals to freshen up in the baking summer heat, an agriculture group said.
Farm animals in Italy — particularly in the muggy agricultural heartland around the Po river near Milan — are under stress as the mercury approaches 40C in the hottest July for more than a decade.
“The situation is worrying, particularly in the Po Valley which has the highest concentration of barns that have been kitted out with fans, small showers and air conditioners to cool down cows and pigs,” said farming group Coldiretti.
Italian cows produced 50m litres less milk than usual in the first 15 days of the month and chickens laid between 5% and 10% fewer eggs, the group said in a statement.
Coldiretti said conditions were set to get worse with the arrival of an anticyclone weather phenomenon known as Charon, named after the ferryman of Greek mythology who steered the deceased across the river separating the worlds of the living and the dead.
Perspiring pigs are also suffering, Coldiretti said, adding that they lose their appetite in temperatures above 28C and start eating up to 40% less than usual.
A group of Oregon children who stumbled across an un-detonated, decades-old military-grade mortar shell in a Portland wildlife refuge took it to a play date but escaped unharmed, police said.
The 30cm-long weapon was likely tossed as refuse into the Oaks Bottom Wildlife Refuge, and officials do not expect to find any more un-detonated bombs in the area, Portland Police Bureau spokesman Pete Simpson said. “It’s a mortar shell and very old. Not clear how old, but certainly decades, at least.”
The children who found the dull-green, stout torpedo-shaped explosive carried it about one mile to a local home, at which point an adult called police.
Police officers evacuated several surrounding homes.
Experts with the 142nd Oregon Air National Explosives Ordinance Disposal Team and a second, local agency, bomb squad worked together to deactivate the object.
