The leaders of Germany and France ended over five hours of “constructive talks” with Vladimir Putin, the Russian president, without any word of an agreement to resolve the crisis in Ukraine.

Dmitry Peskov, Kremlin spokesman, said the leaders had agreed to continue working toward a possible joint document on implementing a ceasefire deal reached in Belarussian capital Minsk in September.

The three leaders’ next contact, he said, was due to be by phone tomorrow.
