People took to social media to express their shock as David Cameron sat down for dinner at the restaurant in Park Street, Bristol. One, Becky Smith, who posted a picture on Twitter of Cameron stopping to pose for a selfie with her, tweeted: “snapapolitician lol”.
Cameron, who was wearing an open-collared black shirt with his sleeves rolled up, appeared relaxed as he tucked into his meal.
A man who was released from a US prison 90 years early due to a clerical error has returned to serve the rest of his sentence.
Rene Lima-Marin of Colorado was free for nearly six years due to the mistake. He had a child, married his girlfriend and held a job. However, a prosecutor noticed the mistake in January, and a judge immediately ordered Lima-Marin back to prison.
A judge in 2000 sentenced Lima-Marin to serve back-to-back sentences on eight convictions for a total of 98 years. However, a court clerk mistakenly wrote in his file that the sentences were to run at the same time.
Experts at the London College of Music have come up with a formula for the perfect Eurovision entry and reckon it points to possible success for UK entry Molly Smitten-Downes.
The month-long study, led by senior lecturer Sam Sutton and sponsored by music-streaming service Blinkbox, analysed all of the winners from the past 10 years to find out what made them stand out. It found winning songs are usually no more than three minutes long and often have a three-note hook on the chorus. They produced the formula (3m + 3NCh) + SF + CC = W, which is translated as (3 minutes long or less + 3 Note Chorus) + Sounds Familiar + Cheeky Charm = Win. Mr Sutton said: “This year’s UK entry, Molly, does this brilliantly.”
Smitten-Downes will perform ‘Children Of The Universe’ in Copenhagen.
A US commuter had a real dummy along for the ride.
State Trooper John Carnell saw a vehicle enter the carpool lane on Interstate 93 north in Massachusetts with a suspicious-looking passenger. He pulled the vehicle over and found that the driver had propped up a jacket with a mannequin head on top in the passenger seat. The fake head even had a little moustache drawn on. Vehicles using the lane must have at least two occupants. The driver has been cited for the offence.
A metre-long orange snake has been found dumped in woods in Scotland.
Animal welfare officers think the corn snake, which has been named Fizzy, was abandoned inside a pillow case. He was discovered by a woman walking her dog at Kirkton Campus, near Fleming Rd, in Livingston, West Lothian.
The reptile is being cared for by the Scottish SPCA, which is appealing for information. Animal rescue officer Lauren Walker said: “Dumping him was very cruel as snakes need heat to survive.”
Basketball team the Portland Trail Blazers were clearly rattled by the San Antonio Spurs as they prepared for a semi-final clash.
A baby rattlesnake, estimated at about a metre long, was discovered in the team’s changing room in San Antonio, Texas, about two hours before the game. Reserve forward Thomas Robinson saw the venomous snake when he took a bag from his locker.
Guard Mo Williams tweeted that it was a scary experience. San Antonio had a 114-97 win over the Trail Blazers to take a 2-0 lead in the Western Conference semi-finals.
