A Spanish newspaper published a document that it said shows the National Security Agency in the US spied on more than 60m phone calls in Spain in one month alone — the latest revelation about alleged massive US spying on allies.

El Mundo’s report came as Spain summoned the US ambassador in Madrid to express its displeasure over the reports of spying on allies.

Last week, the French paper Le Monde reported similar allegations of US spying in France and German magazine Der Spiegel said Washington had tapped Chancellor Angela Merkel’s mobile phone. The leaders of Brazil and Mexico also were reportedly spied on.
