Savile’s Rolls sells for £130k

A Rolls-Royce belonging to the late Jimmy Savile has sold for £130,000 (€106,000) at an auction of thousands of his mementoes and personal belongings.

The car, which he called ‘The Beast’ and still has his personalised JS 247 licence plate, is expected to be the highest priced single item at the sale in Leeds.

It was bought by an internet buyer as hundreds packed Savile Hall in the Royal Armouries complex.

Many at the sale were fans determined to pick up smaller items including lamps, egg cups and pieces of his famous gold jewellery.

The first item to go was one of the late DJ’s Highland suits which sold for £280. The tweed jacket and kilt was the first of 549 lots to go under the hammer — all in aid of Savile’s charitable trust.

Among the better known items in the catalogue is the first chair from his Jim’ll Fix It TV show.

As well as his Roll-Royce, the broadcaster’s distinctive yellow BMW Isetta bubble car was up for sale and went for £22,000 to a woman in the room after a nailbiting series of bids. Pre-sale estimates were that it would reach £5,000-£8,000.
