Man avoids jail for dog attack

Gary Hindley, 56, of Woodberry Way, Chingford, admitted allowing a dog to be dangerously out of control in a public place and causing injury under the Dangerous Dogs Act 1991, after his dog mauled the child in a park in Essex last month.

Hindley was sentenced at London’s Thames Magistrates’ Court for his role in the incident, which resulted in the child having part of her ear bitten off.

His sentence was suspended for two years.

The judge also ordered that the dog, named Buddy, should be destroyed.
