Judge orders man, 25, to leave parental home and find a job

A Spanish judge has ordered a jobless 25-year- old man with a law degree to leave his parents home within 30 days and find employment.

The unusual ruling came after the man took his parents to court following their decision to lower his pocket money.

The unnamed man from Andalusia in the south of Spain had brought his parents before the judge to demand they pay him €400 a month in pocket money.

His parents had refused to give him any further allowance until he could provide proof he was actually job-hunting.

But the legal move spectacularly backfired on the son who was instead told to pack up his belongings within a month, and get out and start earning a living on his own.

The 25-year-old was told he had “sufficient ability to work” and his parents should not be expected to support him.

It was a stunning move by the judge at family court number five in Malaga as most offspring in Spain remain living under their parents’ roof until well into their 30s.

Add to that the economic downturn and the fact there is currently a 43% unemployment among Spain’s youth, more than double the average.

The man did, however, receive some scant consolation.

The judge told his parents to pay their son €200 a month for the next two years “to help with his emancipation”.
