Israeli peace treaty rejected

A POLL conducted by the US-based Pew Research Center finds more than half of all Egyptians would like to see the 1979 peace treaty with Israel annulled.

Only 36% of the 1,000 Egyptians polled are in favour of maintaining the treaty, compared to 54% who would like to see it scrapped. The treaty ended more than 30 years of war between the two countries.

The poll also found that recent pro-democracy uprisings had done little to improve low favourability ratings for the US.

Meanwhile, Egypt’s prosecutor general has ordered that former president Hosni Mubarak be moved from his hospital in a Red Sea resort town to a military facility.
