Fischer’s wife wins legal bid

AN ICELANDIC court has ruled the widow of former world chess champion Bobby Fischer was his lawful wife and should inherit his £1.2 million (€1.4m) fortune.

Reykjavik District Court said fresh documents presented by Miyoko Watai proved that a 2004 wedding between her and Fischer was legal.

The ruling came after a dispute over Fischer’s estate, in which two of his nephews contested the legality of Watai’s marriage to him.
