DAVID CAMERON admitted yesterday that his communications chief, Andy Coulson, was “embarrassed” by the continuing row over phone-hacking at the News of the World when he was editor.

But the prime minister refused to confirm reports Coulson had offered to resign over the issue, and insisted he deserved a “second chance”.

Asked about the suggestion that Coulson had offered to quit, Cameron insisted he would not comment on “private conversations”.
