AN AMERICAN woman who was held in Iran for more than 13 months and accused of spying returned yesterday to the US.

Sarah Shourd arrived at around 6.30am at Dulles International Airport near Washington, accompanied by her mother and an uncle, according to a statement released by her family and relatives of two other Americans who are still in custody in Iran.

Meanwhile, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad also was due to arrive in the city yesterday to attend the UN General Assembly.
