A popular Alpine tourist train derailed in southern Switzerland, killing one person and injuring 42 others, yesterday.

Two of the carriages left the tracks and a third tipped over. The accident occurred on the Glacier Express train that travels between Zermatt and St Moritz.

Police said six of the injured were in a serious condition. Many of the passengers were Japanese.

The cause of the accident wasn’t immediately known.
