British police warned of risk posed by shooting suspect

BRITISH police were warned by prison staff that suspected gunman Raoul Moat may have been planning to harm his ex-girlfriend the day before he allegedly shot her and killed her new boyfriend.

As the hunt for the fugitive continued last night, Northumbria Police temporary Chief Constable Sue Sim said the warning came from Durham Prison on Friday.

She added that the case had been referred to the police watchdog.
