Surfer survives shark attack

A SURFER is in hospital after he was attacked by a shark off the Australian west coast, an official said.

Michael Bedford was rescued by a friend and a group of fishermen after he was attacked twice by a shark off Conspicuous Cliff Beach, south of Perth, the West Australian newspaper reported.

He suffered deep gashes to his right leg, the newspaper said.

Bedford is in a stable condition in hospital, reports said.

People used his surfboard as a stretcher to carry him along the beach.
