Crusading judge loses

THE crusading Spanish judge who brought charges against Augusto Pinochet and Osama bin Laden was suspended yesterday, a possible end to his career.

The decision was made unanimously by a judicial board after an emergency meeting at which the only topic was the judge, Baltasar Garzon.

Supporters chanted, cheered and clapped as Garzon emerged from the nearby National Court, where he works, and hugged co-workers before driving away.
