EU economies ‘need careful handling’

THE serious situation facing the economies of the EU member states and the euro itself needed careful handling over the next few years, Economic Commissioner-designate, Olli Rehn, told the European Parliament.

Currently the Enlargement Commissioner, Rehn is due to take over his new job later this month provided the MEPs approve the full college of 27 commissioners.

For two and a half hours the former Finnish MEP answered questions on the state of the EU’s economy and what he intended to do about it if he is approved.
