Payout for Gascoigne’s ex

PAUL GASCOIGNE’S former wife has accepted undisclosed libel damages over a claim that her financial demands had caused the ex-England football star’s relapse into alcoholism.

Sheryl Gascoigne had brought proceedings in London’s High Court against Express Newspapers over a number of “sensational and highly offensive” allegations in the Daily Star in June.

Her solicitor, Roderick Batten, told Mr Justice Eady the newspaper now accepted each allegation “was and is completely untrue”.
