Spielberg gets Liberty Medal

AWARD-WINNING filmmaker Steven Spielberg, long recognised for his artistic achievements, has been honoured with the Liberty Medal for his compassion and humanitarian work.

Former US president Bill Clinton presented the medal to Spielberg at Philadelphia’s National Constitution Centre, which gives the annual award to those whose actions represent the founding principles of the US.

“Art is and should endeavour to be among the human enterprises that contribute to the building of good and free societies,” said Spielberg at the ceremony.
