7 Irish films to debut at Toronto festival

IRELAND’S Hollywood elite are set to be out in force on the red carpet this week as seven homegrown movies debut at a film festival which has become the biggest indicator of Oscar glory.

Golden Globe winner Colin Farrell along with Cillian Murphy and Brendan Gleeson are on the role of credits for the Toronto Film Festival which begins tomorrow.

A record seven Irish feature films, backed by the Irish Film Board, will open at the festival.

Director Neil Jordan, along with Aidan Quinn and fellow Irish actor Ian Fitzgibbon, will also be promoting their films.

The Cork-filmedOndine, which stars Colin Farrell as a fisherman transformed when he catches a mermaid-like creature in his nets, will get a premiere there along with his movie Triage where he plays a troubled war photographer.

Perrier’s Bounty, starring Cillian Murphy and Brendan Gleeson, will also be seen by audiences for the first time at the festival.

The feature film on bee-keeping called Colony, by Irish director Ross McDonnell and Carter Gunn will feature.

Cracks, which stars Eva Green as a teacher, was shot in Wicklow last year.

Cracks and A Shine of Rainbows will premiere in the Canadian city.
