HOTEL giant Marriott has dropped its legal claim that a woman raped in front of her children at gunpoint was careless and partly to blame, following a storm of protest.

The withdrawal followed days of backlash against Marriott International, which had claimed in its defence of a lawsuit by the Connecticut woman that she had “failed to exercise due care for her own safety and the safety of her children and proper use of her senses and facilities”.

Her attacker is serving a 20-year prison term for the 2006 attack in a garage at the Stamford hotel.
