‘Selfish’ woman’s lover her priority, not child
She must have hoped that her last-minute plea to the judge would have allowed her to leave prison in months.
But she stared stony-faced at Judge Stephen Kramer as he told her she was manipulative and self-centred.
“I am satisfied that you acted selfishly because your priority was your relationship with (her lover),” he said.
The only time she had shown any emotion during the 40-minute sentencing was when her boyfriend was given a life sentence.
Her mouth fell open in shock and she appeared to mouth the word “No”.
After she was jailed indefinitely, she was swiftly marched to the cells.
But as she reached the dock door, a woman from a pressure group against child abuse, called out “F****** tramp”.
The enormity of her situation appeared to have only dawned on her during the last two days.
Her self-assured demeanour which resulted in her writing a constant stream of notes to her legal team, was replaced by a placid, ashen face.
The boyfriend, 32, wearing a grey sweatshirt, swaggered from the court after he was sentenced.
He had sat through two trials and the sentencing looking around as if he did not really know why he was there.
The defendants sat frozen as the judge outlined the catalogue of abuse the baby suffered.
There was no visible flicker of remorse or pity as others flinched when reminded of the broken back and other horrific injuries.
