McCanns go on Oprah to mark 2-year anniversary
The couple will use their high-profile appearance on the programme to release new images of how the missing girl may look now.
The McCanns flew out with their spokesman, Clarence Mitchell, and Emma Loach, director of a Channel 4 documentary to be shown after the May 3 anniversary.
They will first visit the National Centre for Missing and Exploited Children in Alexandria, Virginia, whose experts have created the computer-aged pictures of Madeleine.
Today the group will travel to Chicago, where the McCanns will record the interview with the chatshow host tomorrow before returning to Britain early on Sunday.
Mitchell said the couple had agreed to appear on the Oprah show because of its massive global reach — it is broadcast in 144 countries around the world.
He said: “With the sheer scope of the programme, to be able to get the age-progression picture around the world, combined with the more in-depth Channel 4 documentary, they just felt that now was the right time.”
The McCanns and their Find Madeleine Fund will not receive any payment for their appearance on show.
